The real price of coal
Just like climate change, all fossil fuel sources, especially coal, pose unlimited air pollution as a serious global threat to human health.
Although the exact size of the forests and agricultural lands destroyed by coal production is unknown due to the lack of publicly available official data, the area of open pit coal mining licenses in Milas and Yatağan covers an area of 440 km2 .
According to the findings of the study, air pollution from the Yatağan, Yeniköy and Kemerköy thermal power plants in Muğla caused at least 45 thousand premature deaths between 1983 and 2017. It is also estimated that 46 thousand people were hospitalized due to cardiovascular and respiratory diseases caused by air pollution.
