Hands on the rock

Trust is the hallmark of rock climbing. As the athlete ascends step by step along the steep wall reaching up to the sky, he entrusts his life to his teammate who takes his safety below. The rope they hold tightly in their hands binds them to each other and to life. In very few sports is this sense of partnership and solidarity so important. Perhaps this is what makes climbing so special.
